Hospital Begoña Gijón Asturias Our Hospitals

The Begoña Hospital as we know it now, was founded on its present site on March 10th, 1958. At that time, it was known as the Sanatorium of Our Lady of Begoña and only housed twenty in-patients. The nursing staff were made up of the local Carmelite nuns, and the whole medical and management team were led by Dr. D. Felipe Sánchez.

It was well-equipped with the technology of its time (such as X-rays and electric knives, as well as other surgical specialties) and was well received in the press for what was seen as its incredible modernity and the special advances in medicine made - particularly among the anaesthesia team.

In December 1987, the hospital was taken over by the IMQ group, a leading healthcare company from Asturias, who had already had a partnership with the hospital since July 1964, and since that time it has gone from strength to strength.

Today, you will find that the hospital is a noted private hospital in the area. It is well established and offers innovative care pathways. It is a centre of research, while simultaneously offering a high standard of care, designed to satisfy the needs and expectations of all patients and their families, through a high quality, safe and personalized service.

Facilities

It is recognised that the Begoña Hospital plays an important role in the daily lives of the people of Gijon, and the hospital has grown and modernized at the same rate as the city. The hospital was modernised between 1992-1994, and a new outpatient area was opened on the first floor in 1999. In that same year a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance unit was installed along with a scanner, and in July 2010 a new Breast Pathology Unit was opened.

2013 saw many advances in the facilities available at the hospital. Most notably, an Oncology Unit, a Day Hospital area, operating rooms, an ICU, and a maternity area.

The hospital is currently equipped with 46 rooms and 6 ICU beds and provides modern, quality medicine and care management.

Medical Professionals

The aim of the hospital is to afford the people of Gijon and surrounds, high quality medical care along with an efficient and personalized service. All of the medical staff are highly qualified and have advanced technology at their disposal.

The provision of top-quality care at the hospital is based on excellent teamwork and supported by the latest technology. The staff are committed to continuous professional improvement, by incorporating new technology, medical practices along with new services and features. They wish you a speedy recovery and hope that you are more than satisfied with the care provided.
