Calpe Oktoberfest - October Beer Festival in Calpe 2012 Spain News

In the region of Costa Blanca, each coastal resort has been stereotyped. For example Altea is for the Dutch, Javea is for the English and Calpe is for the Germans. The later of the three areas means that Calpe has an extremely good excuse to hold the yearly celebration of the ‘Ocktoberfest’.

The Beer Festival of Oktoberfest is a typical German tradition and every year The Carnival Club of Calpe organise the very popular event. This year is the 25th festival to be held here and will run for ten days, from 25th October - 4th November 2012. It takes place behind the Club de Tennis in the Partida Gargasindi (opposite the Silene de Ifach Nursery).

The fiesta will be inaugurated by the local Mayor. He does this by opening the first barrel of beer at 8pm. Each day the fiesta is on, the tents will be open to the public at 6pm and an hour later the music will begin!

Also on opening day there will be the traditional tapping of the Paulaner beer barrel and last year’s Oktoberfest Queen will be replaced by the newly crowned Queen of 2012.

During these ten days of German celebrations, it is believed that more than 10,000 people will pass through the tent.

It isn’t unusual to see many Germans supping beer from their large tankards, whilst dressed in their national costumes of Dirndl and Lederhosen.

Not only can you sample the fantastic beers on offer but you will also be able to tuck into typical German cuisine such as ham hocks, sausages and much more.

The whole ten days will have a non stop party atmosphere with all types of music being on offer.
So head on over to Calpe and enjoy an amazing celebration of German traditions!
