Malaga Airport Taxi Driver Strike Easter 2013 Spain News

If you are flying in or out of Malaga Airport this Easter (Semana Santa), please be aware that between Monday 25th March from 6am until the following Monday 1st April at the same time, the taxi drivers at the airport will be undertaking industrial action.

The taxi drivers are apparantely protesting at the decreto 11/85 law which was first introduced back in the 1980's! The law dictates that drivers from out of town are entitled to collect passengers from the airport if it has been pre-arranged. They are not allowed though to collect passengers on an ad-hoc basis. The drivers must also enter the airport with an empty vehicle.

These laws have obviously ruffled the resident taxi drivers feathers and due to this approximately 600 hundred drivers will voice their displeasure during what is usually a very busy period for Malaga Airport. The Malaga City area will not be affected by the strike.

So if you are visiting the Costa del Sol during the Easter break, please make sure you plan your transfers well in advance to avoid any inconvenience.

UPDATE: We have now been informed that the strike action has now been cancelled with both the drivers and the Junta de Andalucia reaching an agreement. For further details please see this post from the Euro Weekly News website.
