Spain Attracts Record Tourist Numbers For First Half Of 2014 Spain News

Government announces record 28 million visitors to Spain in the first half of the year with British and German travellers leading the way.

In yet another sign that the global economic crisis just might be a thing of the past, the Spanish government recently released their tourism figures for the first six months of the year.

Between January and June of 2014, a ministry of tourism survey recorded around 28 million visitors into the country, which is a 7.3 percent rise on the same period last year.

Of the 28 million visitors, 6.5 million were British tourists up 5.8 percent on the previous year.

German tourists were in second place with a total of 4.6 million holidaymakers and a rise of 8.8 percent on the same time last year.

June was also a record month with a total of 6,582,941 visitors, which is a rise of 4.5% on last year’s figures.

Of all the regions, Catalonia was the most popular among visitors with a little over 7 million people flocking to take in its many delights.

It is thought that recent turmoil in other popular destinations such as Egypt and Turkey may have helped to boost the numbers.

Spain like other countries has been shackled by austerity over the last few years and these numbers are a positive indicator that the country and global economy in general are finally on the mend.
