Ear, Nose and Throat Care with Sanitas
Hearing goes so gradually that other people notice before you do. The television creeps up, restaurants become hard work, and you start asking people to repeat themselves.
What ENT covers
Three areas that share the same anatomy, which is why one doctor handles all of them.
Ears. Hearing loss, ringing, blocked feeling, infections, vertigo. Balance problems are ENT rather than neurology more often than people expect, because the balance organs sit in the inner ear.
Nose and sinuses. Blocked nose that never clears, repeated sinus infections, loss of smell, a deviated septum, hay fever that has stopped responding to tablets.
Throat. Persistent sore throat, hoarseness lasting weeks, difficulty swallowing, tonsils that keep flaring up, snoring and sleep apnoea.
Hearing loss, and getting it checked properly
Hearing goes gradually and people adjust without noticing. The usual signs are turning the television up, struggling in restaurants, and asking people to repeat themselves.
An ENT appointment gets you a proper hearing test rather than a screening. That is worth doing because hearing loss has causes worth ruling out, and because untreated hearing loss is linked to isolation and cognitive decline in later life.
The test is covered. Hearing aids are not. They count as an appliance, the same way glasses do, so expect to buy them yourself.
Waiting periods that apply here
Consultations and hearing tests have no waiting period. Tonsil removal, sinus surgery and septum correction are surgery, so they sit behind the 10-month wait if they need a hospital bed, or 3 months if done as an outpatient. Emergencies are covered from day one.
See every Sanitas waiting period in one place, including how switching from another insurer waives nearly all of them.

What you pay
Nothing at the clinic on a no-co-payment plan. A small fixed amount per visit on a co-payment plan, with hearing tests usually charged as a test rather than a consultation.
