Dra. María Elisa Muñoz Allende is a general practitioner (médico general) seeing Sanitas patients in Chamartín, central Madrid. Beyond her general medical practice, she also holds Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) credentials for pilot medical certifications, including FAA 1st class examinations - the level required for airline transport pilot licences. She works with both Sanitas and Asisa patients at the Paseo de la Castellana consulting rooms.

Areas of practice

As a Sanitas-network GP in Madrid, Dra. Muñoz Allende handles the day-to-day general medicine work most expat and resident patients need: routine consultations, prescriptions, minor illness, vaccinations, basic blood tests, referrals to Sanitas specialists, and certificates for work, sport and travel. She also issues medical certificates and reports that require a registered médico general's signature.

Her separate aeromedical practice covers initial and renewal medical certifications for private pilots, commercial pilots and airline transport pilots. For Sanitas patients who happen to fly recreationally or professionally, that overlap is convenient: the same GP they see for an ear infection can also handle the FAA Class 1 medical that EASA-licensed pilots increasingly need for US-registered aircraft.

Booking through Sanitas

Sanitas members can book through the Sanitas app, or by calling the surgery on 913 150 105. Most Sanitas plans cover GP consultations in full; copayments apply on Sanitas Más Salud Plus. The afternoon and lunchtime slots tend to fill quickly given the narrow consulting windows, so booking a few days ahead is sensible for non-urgent appointments. Aeromedical examinations are billed separately from Sanitas cover - confirm pricing and what to bring (current licence, prescriptions, prior medical certificates) when you call.

Why see a Sanitas GP in central Madrid

Madrid's public Atención Primaria service runs on a strict catchment-area model: you're assigned a GP based on where you live, with limited flexibility to switch and wait times of one to two weeks for non-urgent consultations. Going through Sanitas gives you direct booking with whichever GP fits your schedule and language preference, and lets you stay with the same doctor over time rather than rotating through whoever is on duty. For Castellana-corridor residents and the steady flow of international patients working in the financial district, having a private GP a few blocks from the office is the simplest way to keep on top of routine health admin without taking half a day off work.
