The Sanitas App in English: What It Lets a Sanitas Policyholder Do
Yes, the Sanitas app works in English. The app, called Mi Sanitas, is the Sanitas customer area on your phone, where a policyholder carries the digital card, books appointments, sees a doctor by video and keeps reports, test results and prescriptions. Once a policy arranged through HealthPlan Spain is activated, Sanitas sends you a text message with the link to the app. It comes with every Sanitas health plan we arrange, at no extra cost.
Who arranges it: HealthPlan Spain is an authorised Sanitas agent (agent code 22395) in Marbella that arranges Sanitas policies in English, at the same price as buying direct from Sanitas.
This guide explains what the app lets you do, what it does not do, which languages it runs in and how it reaches you as a HealthPlan Spain customer.
What can you do in the Sanitas app?
The app is where a Sanitas policy is run day to day. With it you can:
- Carry your digital card. The card lives in the app, so the plastic one can stay at home. Take photo ID to appointments too, as a clinic may ask for both.
- Find and book doctors. Search the Sanitas network for doctors, hospitals, emergency centres and dental clinics, then book, move or cancel appointments. Most specialists can be booked directly, with no referral from a general practitioner (GP). Our medical directory lists the same network in English.
- See a doctor by video. The 24-hour emergency video consultation puts you through to the GP on duty with no appointment, usually within a few minutes, and carries no copayment on any plan. Specialist video appointments are booked in advance and follow each specialist's own hours.
- Check your symptoms. The symptom checker asks a few questions and suggests the speciality that should see you. It is a signpost, not a diagnosis.
- Keep your reports, results and prescriptions. Consultation notes, test results and prescriptions go into the health folder in the app, and the app tells you when a report is ready. An electronic prescription gives you a code to show at the pharmacy with your identity document.
- Request authorisations and reimbursements. Tests and treatments that need prior authorisation are requested in the app, and the approval appears there. Reimbursements are requested from it too.
- Check receipts and copayments. Every charge is itemised in the app, and a paper statement is posted unless you switch to digital only. A copayment is a small fixed amount you pay Sanitas each time you use a service, on the plans that have one.
- Act for your family. You can give another person on the policy permission to carry out procedures on your behalf. Both parents can manage a child's appointments and reports from their own account.
Sanitas Blua, the digital health service included with every Sanitas health plan, is also reached through the app. It carries the video consultations, the symptom checker and the digital health tools. Of the video services, only the emergency line runs 24 hours; specialists see you by video by appointment. Our Blua guide and our video consultation guide cover both in detail.
Is the Sanitas app in English?
Yes. The app runs in English and Spanish on every policy, and on iPhone it also offers Portuguese. You choose the language once, and the menus and the digital tools then appear in English. The doctors and advisers behind the app are Sanitas professionals in Spain, so a consultation is held in Spanish unless the professional speaks English. Language is not a reason to pick one plan over another, because the app runs in the same languages on all of them.
How do you get the Sanitas app?
The app comes with the policy. Once a policy arranged through HealthPlan Spain is activated, Sanitas sends you a text message with the link to the app. Your digital card, appointments, reports and the digital tools are there from the first day of the policy, and Sanitas policies start on the first of a month.
So the first step is the policy itself. A Sanitas application through HealthPlan Spain is made in English from start to finish:
- Get a quote for your age and province, and compare the plans side by side.
- Pick the plan and the start date, and complete the health questionnaire. Sanitas Unico has none.
- We arrange the policy with Sanitas. Once it is activated, the text message with the link to the app arrives.
Not sure which plan to choose? The cost guide sets out prices by age, and the waiting periods guide shows what is covered from day one.
What the app does not do
The app is not the place for a life-threatening problem: call 112, Spain's emergency number. For an urgent problem that is not life-threatening, the 24-hour emergency video line connects you to the doctor on duty. Our emergencies guide explains where to go. Specialist video appointments are booked in advance and are not an emergency service.
Blood tests at home and home delivery of medicines are not part of the digital services in the app. A video consultation never replaces an examination either: the doctor can ask you to attend in person when a test or an examination is needed.

Frequently asked questions
- Is the Sanitas app available in English?
-
Yes. The app runs in English and Spanish on every Sanitas policy, and on iPhone it also offers Portuguese. You choose the language once. The doctors and advisers are Sanitas professionals in Spain, so a consultation is held in Spanish unless the professional speaks English.
- What can I do in the Sanitas app?
-
You can carry your digital card, find and book doctors, and use the 24-hour emergency video consultation with no appointment. You can also check which speciality you need, keep your reports, test results and prescriptions, and request authorisations and reimbursements. Receipts and copayments are itemised there, and another person on the policy can be given permission to act for you.
- How do I get the Sanitas app?
-
The app comes with a Sanitas policy. Once a policy arranged through HealthPlan Spain is activated, Sanitas sends you a text message with the link to the app. Policies start on the first of a month. To take out a policy in English, get a quote and apply through HealthPlan Spain.
- Can I see a doctor through the app?
-
Yes. Sanitas plans include a 24-hour emergency video consultation with no appointment, which children on the policy can use too. Video appointments with specialists are booked in the app like an in-person visit and follow each doctor's own hours. The doctor can prescribe medication and order tests during the call when they judge it appropriate.
- Does the Sanitas app cost extra?
-
No. The app comes with every Sanitas health plan we arrange, and the Blua digital services inside it cost nothing extra. The 24-hour emergency video consultation carries no copayment on any plan. A specialist video appointment is free on the plans without copayments and on Accede and Avanza. It carries the in-person copayment on Mas Salud Optima and Mas Salud Plus, and counts on the copayment scale on Unico.
- Is the app an emergency service?
-
Not for a life-threatening problem: call 112. For an urgent problem that is not life-threatening, the 24-hour emergency video line in the app puts you through to the doctor on duty, usually within a few minutes. Specialist video appointments are not an emergency service and follow each doctor's hours.
- Does the app include blood tests at home or medicine delivery?
-
No. Blood tests at home and home delivery of medicines are not part of the digital services in the app. A prescription from a video consultation is a private prescription, valid at any pharmacy in Spain.
- Is the Sanitas Portal Asistencial (PAS) the same as the app?
-
No. The Portal Asistencial is the Sanitas portal for the healthcare professionals who work with Sanitas, not a service for policyholders. Policyholders use the app, and Sanitas sends the link to it by text message once a policy is activated.
- Is there Sanitas customer service in English?
-
The app itself runs in English. Sanitas advisers are based in Spain, so a phone call may be in Spanish. HealthPlan Spain's English-speaking team supports our customers for the life of the policy, Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 2pm by phone or email.
