Bars In Seville To be Silenced With New Noise Regulations Spain News

Local government announce a wave of new regulations to prohibit unnecessary noise from bars, restaurants and vehicles.

If you have ever been to Seville and ventured out in the evening, you will know that the many hundreds of bars and restaurants in the city can be somewhat noisy.

After new regulations were passed on Friday by local councillors, this may all be coming to an end with Seville's many bars, restaurants and even motorists all in the firing line.

The new laws will mean that any establishment thought to be causing "unnecessary noise" will be fined anything from €300 up to an eye-watering €300,000 Euros for the more serious misdemeanors.

This could be from loud conversations from customers, boisterous board games, televisions, singing/chanting or from music.

Drivers have also been targeted with restrictions on activities such as revving of engines, loud music or from leaving a car alarm sounding for longer than three minutes.

The restrictions have come after a petition from over 4,000 local residents who feel that the noise from the bars and restaurants is having a major impact on their children's performance at school. They said

"Can you imagine what it's like to have 100 people under your window screaming as they watch a football match? Our children can't perform well at school. When we leave for work in the morning we're already exhausted."

It is unclear how it will be enforced, but it is thought that it will be down to the local police using their "best judgement" and fining those they believe to be flouting the new regulations.

In total, the official document from the town hall (below) is 94 pages long which gives you an indication as to the full extent of the new guidelines.
