Passport with covid label, map and stethoscope Spain Lifts Covid Testing Requirement For Travellers From Germany, Italy, Austria And Other EU Countries Spain News

Spain has announced that many regions in Italy and Germany, as well as several other countries, can now enter the country without producing a negative test, showing proof of having the vaccination or having recovered from the virus.

The Health Ministry has revised the entry requirements for EU/EEA countries to be removed from its high-risk countries and areas list. This means that more European tourists can visit Spain without having to establish their Covid status or pay for a diagnostic test.

The authorities have reached this decision based on the improving of infection rates in these specific regions and countries, as well as their advanced vaccination campaigns.

The new testing requirement law came into effect on Monday June 21 and allows people from Italy travelling to Spain from the regions of Abruzzo, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardia, Marche, Molise, Piemonte, Provincia Autonoma di Bolzano/Bozen, Provincia Autonoma di Trento, Puglia, Sardinia, Toscan, Umbria and Veneto to enter Spain without having to provide a negative Covid test.

The same applies to anyone travelling from several Norwegian counties including Innlandet, Møre og Romsdal, Nordland, Rogaland, Trøndelag, Vestland and Viken and all German states with the exception of Baden-Württemberg and Saarland, who will still have to provide proof of their Covid status.

Other countries removed from Spain’s ‘risk list’ include Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Finland, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, and Malta.

Greek travellers from Anatoliki Makedonia Thraki, Ipeiros, Peloponnisos and Voreio Aigaio can also come to Spain test-free, as can Croatians heading to Spain from Panonska Hrvatska.

Spain’s EU/EEA risk country/area list has remained virtually unchanged throughout 2021, only including isolated territories in the bloc and small islands as exceptions to the testing rule.

The list is updated weekly, meaning that this latest update is valid until June 27th.

There are also travellers from third countries from outside the EU/EEA who can visit Spain without having to show a vaccine certificate, a negative test result or proof of recovery from Covid, such as British tourists, who have been able to visit Spain without a PCR or antigen test since May.

The full list of non-EU/EEA countries whose travellers can visit Spain for non-essential reasons and don’t need to prove their Covid status remains unchanged and includes Australia, China, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Korea, Macao, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, South Thailand and the UK

Although proof of testing etc isn’t required from many countries, all international travellers flying to Spain, whether they’re from the EU or outside or are on the risk list or not, must still make sure they fill in a health control form on the Spain Travel Health website or app before travelling to Spain.

Travellers are reminded to check the entry requirements of their countries for travel from Spain.
