Spain Extends Covid Entry Restrictions For UK Travellers Until May 15 Spain News

Spanish authorities have confirmed that the current restrictions on UK nationals visiting the country will remain in place for another two weeks.

The Ministry of the Interior announced that they would be extending the measures which were first imposed in July 2020.

It means that the current restrictions will remain in force until at least May 15.

The country’s Official State Gazette (BOE) was updated to reflect the extension stating, “This order will take effect from 12:00 p.m. on July 22, 2020, until 12:00 p.m. on May 15, 2022, without prejudice to its possible modification to respond to a change in circumstances or new recommendations in the field of the European Union."

Vaccinated Travellers

There are currently no restrictions in place for those who have been fully vaccinated and wish to visit Spain and any of its islands. Travellers who have been fully jabbed may enter the country without the requirement to present a Covid-19 test or quarantine on arrival.

Travellers will need to provide proof that they have been fully vaccinated at least 14 days prior to their arrival in Spain with a vaccine that has been approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) or World Health Organisation (WHO).

If the vaccination was completed more than nine months previous (270 days), travellers will need to show that they have also received a Covid-19 booster jab.

Unvaccinated Travellers

Unvaccinated travellers may still enter Spain, however, they must demonstrate that they have previously recovered from Covid-19 in the past six months and hold a medical certificate or recovery record.

Under 12s

Travellers under the age of 12 will not need to provide proof of vaccination or complete a health control form.

There are also no requirements to undertake any form of testing prior to travel or show proof of having recovered from Covid-19 in the previous six months.

12 to 17 Years

Any travellers between the ages of 12 and 17 may also enter Spain from the UK, however, they must present a negative NAAT (RT-PCR or similar) test which must be taken within 72 hours of arrival or an antigen test taken within 24 hours.

They may also present a valid certificate to show they have been fully vaccinated or provide proof that they have previously had Covid.

Health Control Forms

Spain has a Health Control Form that travellers must complete no more than 48 hours before entry, however, there are some exceptions.

The following are not required to complete the Health Control Form.

  • Those under 12
  • Travellers who have been fully vaccinated
  • Travellers who have recovered from Covid in the past six months.
