Costa Del Sol Will Be Home To Largest Leisure Park In Southern Europe

Intu is beginning construction of a huge energy-efficient commercial and leisure park in Torremolinos.
After years of planning and setbacks, Intu will soon start construction on a vast commercial and leisure park to benefit the 4 million residents and 12.4 million tourists of the Costa Del Sol. The leisure park will feature an all-year-round circus, a concert venue, 70 restaurants, two hotels and 20 leisure attractions. Furthermore, the area will consist of 12 neighbourhoods and over 250,000 sqm of parks, gardens and green spaces.
The leisure park is set to be the most extensive leisure park in Southern Europe and is set to cost around €600 million. The complex will adopt greener construction methods with a commitment that at least 20% of construction materials will be recycled.
There will be renewable and energy saving systems in place across the complex. Green spaces will be irrigated using a recycled water system, that will require small amounts of water, due to the use of native plants in the area.
Work will begin soon as Intu have just made available the €106 million start fund to start moving the earth and making way for the foundations of the new site. The leisure park will be situated just north of the Palacio de Congresos in Torremolinos.
What will the Intu complex offer?
The leisure park will have a range of typical facilities such as hotels and retail facilities. The shopping centre will have many of the leading retail brands. However, for some brands, this will be their first time in Spain. Other facilities will include an extensive sports facility with a climbing area and even a wind tunnel.
Guests will be able to enjoy entertainment at the aquarium, wave pool and theatre among other facilities.
Intu has helped to make their leisure park as accessible for everyone as possible, with plenty of disabled access areas. In a bid to integrate into the surrounding areas, Intu vows to hire as many unemployed locals as possible.
This will not be the first Spanish project for British-firm Intu. Already Intu’s portfolio includes Xanadú in Madrid and further development projects underway in Valencia, Vigo and Palma.
Work will finally begin once the plans are passed through the town planning commission in the forthcoming weeks, providing there are no stumbling blocks for the firm.
