Health Alert In Spain As Popular Deodorant Removed From Store Shelves Health News

On the 15th of September, the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS) took swift action, issuing urgent instructions to recall the Nuud BV brand of cream deodorant from all store shelves across Spain.

This particular summer was one for the books in Spain, characterised by relentless heatwaves and extreme weather conditions. Consequently, staying fresh and comfortable became a significant concern for many people. With the thermometer soaring, deodorant use skyrocketed as people sought refuge from the sweltering heat.

During the hot months, it's not uncommon to see individuals carrying miniature deodorant bottles or roll-on options, especially for those anticipating extended periods outdoors. These portable solutions offer a way to combat the discomfort caused by the intense Spanish heat.

However, for those who rely on or possess the Nuud BV brand of cream deodorant, caution is paramount. The AEMPS has raised serious concerns regarding potential health risks associated with its application in the armpit area. They explained that the effects could be related to the consistency and oily nature of the product, together with sensitive skin ”which is subject to anatomical occlusion and permanent friction, would increase the risk of cysts and microbial infection.

It is important to note that Spain is not the only country grappling with this issue. A week prior to Spain's alert, France had already taken decisive action by removing Nuud BV products from circulation and discontinuing all marketing efforts. The true underlying reason behind these actions has now been revealed.

The cause for concern centres around the possibility that using this particular hygiene product could lead to the development of cysts in the armpit region, a truly disconcerting prospect given its widespread popularity. The AEMPS has suggested that the issue may be linked to the consistency and oily nature of the product, potentially resulting in the clogging of pores when applied.

At present, the AEMPS has been unable to definitively rule out potential health impacts and risks for individuals who have already applied Nuud products to their armpits in Spain. Given the product's wide availability, this warning has the potential to affect a significant portion of the population.

Nuud deodorant is accessible through various channels across Spain, including online retailers, supermarkets, independent stores, and pharmacies throughout the country.

Though four individuals have reportedly developed cysts in the armpit area after using this particular deodorant, a comprehensive investigation into the product is warranted, as it does, in fact, comply with all cosmetic product regulations in Spain.

As authorities continue to investigate and gather more information, the AEMPS has urged those who have purchased the deodorant not to use it and if they notice any symptoms, to contact their doctor.
