Passengers at Madrid airport Spain Extends Travel Ban On All Arrivals From Britain, South Africa And Brazil Until March 30 Spain News

The date for allowing visitors to enter Spain from Britain, South Africa and Brazil has once again been extended, this time until 18:00 hrs on March 30.

This decision was made to prevent the spread of new Covid strains from entering the country.

Currently, the rules are that only Spanish nationals, legal residents of Spain and nationals of the neighbouring microstate of Andorra, can fly into Spain from these three countries.

Arrival restrictions for flights from Britain were imposed at the end of December, to stop the spread of the highly contagious Covid variant that was discovered there back in November.

This latest ban is now the sixth time that the ban on British flight arrivals has been extended.

There are strict rules for British Nationals regarding the provision of PCR tests and completion of passenger arrival forms. Only those with Spanish residency are allowed to enter from the UK, leisure travel is not permitted.

The UK and Spanish governments have, however, come to an agreement that Brits can enter the country if they can prove they are in the process of applying for Spanish residency, by providing specific documentation.

The ban on flights from South Africa and Brazil came into effect at the later date of February 3.

The only exception to this rule is for passengers stopping off in Spain, on their way to another country. They can land in Spain but must not leave the airport and must stay for no longer than 24 hours.

Since February 22, all visitors arriving in Spain from both South Africa and Brazil have been compelled to undertake 10 days of compulsory quarantine. This is reduced to seven days if they have proof of a negative test.

This requirement was extended on March 8 to arrivals from another 10 countries. Those countries are Botswana, Cameroon, Ghana, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Mozambique, where the South African strain is being transmitted. The other two countries are Colombia and Peru, where there has been a community transmission of the Brazilian strain.

It comes as Spain considers the introduction of a new vaccine passport scheme which could give British and other European tourists the opportunity of a summer holiday in the country from as early as May.
