Extra Option - Worldwide Reimbursement

Our Worldwide reimbursement cover options give you 80%-90% reimbursement on all of your medical bills using doctors and hospitals outside of the network both in Spain and worldwide. This extra option can only be added on contraction or renewal of the health insurance plan you decide to take out. The upper age limit that you can contract this option is 64 years of age.

Please note that the travel assistance and the worldwide options may only be claimed against for a maximum of 3 months per year.

Important information

Annual limits

An annual limit applies to how much you can claim and/or the number of times you can claim for extras. At the beginning of each year, your benefit limits are renewed allowing you to claim benefits again. Annual limits are calculated per person, per calendar year. Please see the FAQ tab for the limits of each option.

Qualification periods

Qualification periods apply to some services under your worldwide reimbursement cover. This means that you must have contracted the cover for a fixed period of time before you can access those services and make claims for the costs. Please see the FAQ tab for qualification periods.

Percentage back

Depending on which of our worldwide reimbursement options you choose, you'll get 80% / 90% of the cost back until you reach your annual limit.

Is there an age limit to purchase these options?

The upper age limit to purchase any of the wordlwide reimbursement options is 64. Once the cover is in force there is no upper age limit to remain insured.

Is there a time limit to submit a claim?

When you have had your treatment you will have 90 days to submit the claim.

What happens if I want to purchase the worldwide reimbursement option after I have already purchased the underlying health insurance policy?

Please contact us and we will send you an application form to complete, sign and return. Please note that these options can only be purchased at the time you purchase your underlying health insurance plan or at its renewal.

Is the bill for treatment sent to Sanitas by the specialist / hospital or do I have to pay for the treatment first?

When you receive treatment you will need to pay 100% of the costs. It is then your responsibility to submit your claim inside your MiSanitas online account where we will reimburse you the appropriate percentage (this is either 80% or 90% depending on which reimbursement option you initially purchased).

How are reimbursements claimed for and paid?

To claim just login to your online account, fill in a few details then upload the medical report and receipt of payment. Reimbursements are paid directly to a Spanish bank account of your choice.
